Asking about renewing your period of stay at the immigration bureau

Since October 1, 2026, the fee for renewing your period of stay depends on how long you're granted, and applying online is clearly cheaper. For a 1-year renewal it's 33,000 yen at the counter (paid with 収入印紙しゅうにゅういんし, revenue stamps; no cashless payment at the counter) versus 27,000 yen online plus a 330 yen payment fee. For 3 to under 5 years it's 64,000 yen at the counter versus 56,000 yen + 550 yen online. Online fees are paid only by convenience-store or bank payment (Pay-easy or net banking), not credit card. The payment link comes by email after the review, from an @service-dgft.com address, while payment-method selection and payment-completion emails come from @veritrans.jp. Check both the sender and the contents against the agency’s official guidance; the sender domain alone does not prove a message is genuine. You can apply from 3 months before expiry if your stay is 6 months or longer, and standard processing takes 2 weeks to 1 month. Applications received by Sept 30, 2026 still pay the old fee.
